Luxury Car Rentals and the Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible

Porsche Car Rentals in Miami FloridaPorsche's new 911 Carrera sports car is an all-wheel drive version of older open-top models. It is the perfect luxury car rental. It is more dynamic and muscular than previous versions because it has wider rear tires and the body is 1.7 inches wider. There is an electronic soft top on this luxury car rental that opens and closes in 20seconds, and can be deployed or retracted when the car is moving up to 30 miles an hour. The top is only 92 pounds, so it provides a lower center of gravity for the car and a higher degree of lateral dynamics.

For safety, this luxury car rental comes with the Porsche Side Impact Protection (POSIP). This features separate head and thorax airbags for the driver and passenger seats. There are also two full-size frontal airbags and three-point seat belt launch tensioners and belt force limiters for the front seats. In case of a rollover, there are two ultra-strong steel tubes in the A-pillars and two supplemental safety bars located behind the rear seats that automatically deploy.

The 911 Carrera luxury car rental has a 3.8-liter power plant that accelerates the car from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds and to a top speed of 179 miles per hour. The Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system is great. It detects that the driver has abruptly taken their foot off the accelerator and ?pre-fills? the brake calipers to help shorten the distance. It also has a hydraulic pump that works like an emergency brake assist to help the driver. The all-wheel drive system transfers between 5 and 40 percent of the driving force permanently to the front wheels. This gives excellent handling for this luxury car rental on curves, straight-line stability at high speeds, and improved traction on slippery roads.

Porsche Carrera Convertible Rentals

This is Porsche's is a mid-size convertible, making it perfect for touring New York City with a convertible car rental. Its inspiration comes from the 550 Spyders, with a mid-engine configuration set behind the driver and passenger. It has the great handling and performance of a Porsche, with a set-up perfect for driving. It can go from 0-62 miles/hour in 5.2 seconds. Even with the steering wheel in its lowest position the instruments are not blocked from view. Due to the position o the engine, this car offers two trunks with plenty of room for luggage. On chilly days, the electronically powered convertible roof can be opened or closed while the vehicle is in motion.

My copilot and I each lifted a hand to about head level and felt for air movement. Almost none. A few inches higher, the wind was shrieking at 100 mph. Fast, but not exactly a story lead if we were talking about Porsche's solid-top 911 Turbo Coupe. However, we were whooshing along a German autobahn in the turbomonster's new Cabriolet version-and with the top down.

The mesh wind deflector, carefully positioned behind us, was choking the turbulence to an almost leaf-drop standstill. It turns out that just about everything the 911 Turbo Coupe can do, its 2008 fabric-topped sibling can come close to emulating. Or match.

For instance, with the top up, both cars have identical drag coefficients, and above 75 mph-the split rear wing's deployment speed-their tails kiss the asphalt with the same aero-downforce (to do it, though, the Cabrio's foil elements separate to a more noticeable 2.6-inch gap).

"Downforce" and "convertible" don't normally share the same sentence, but they'd better when describing a convertible that'll touch 192 mph. That's a substantial jump in scenery-blur over the original 1987 Turbo Cab's 161-mph terminal velocity, but what matters more here on our autobahn-bereft soil is the new car's solidity at suborbital velocity.

The cold truth is that the open version's decapitation amputates about two-thirds of the Coupe's torsional stiffness. Yikes (but not unusual). Nevertheless, the Cabrio's structure still has to rate something like a 9.9 on the convertible chassis rigor-mortis scale. Doorsill buttressing and a rejiggering of the engine's mounts-tricking the turbomotor into being a giant mass damper-leave it unperturbed by all but the dodgiest surfaces. The Cab's raison d'etre is a quick-deploying (20 seconds), quality three-layer ceiling that's stitched over a magnesium structure. Although it's beefy enough to be operable at up to 31 mph, the entire top, down to the electric motors, weighs a mere 93 pounds.

Match that, you folding, high-center-of-gravity hardtops out there. With 480 horsepower (same as the Coupe), the impact of the Cabrio's 154 extra pounds on acceleration really isn't much noticeable. Measurable? Maybe minutely.

But in your hands this is the same, lusty, relativity-probing, mid-three-second-to-sixty 911 Turbo-except the space-time continuum you're warping now includes the open sky. With a press of a button-and a check for $140,000 or so.

This is a great luxury car rental when you are in the New York area. Imagine yourself driving around Long Island and New York City with this car. Don't miss out on this opportunity! Call Image Rent A Car today to book your rental for when you will be in town.
